Experiments with the polygon tool.

Polygon tool is not only useful when it comes to stars or triangles.
You can create flowers, gears, cog-wheels and some other objects according to your fantasy.
Create, for example, 20-sided star:

Then you remove - one point inside and one point outside. You'll have gear-like something. Then you select it's outside points and choose point type "Curve". And curve points have to be automatic in both directions:

You ave a flower. If you need something more industrial, create, say, 21-sized star and do like this:
