Zhukovsky

Map

August 19–20, 2011

Zhukovsky is an ordinary, completely unremarkable town near Moscow.

Schedule. Milk

Yet, once every two years, millions of people come here.

Horse manure (in bags)

All the roads become hopelessly clogged with traffic.

It’s impossible to squeeze onto any of the trains.

5 km/h

An international air show takes place here.

The latest aircraft models are displayed, pilots perform aerobatics for spectators.

Visitors rush to the airfield.

Testing. Danger of death

Everyone stands in a big crowd.

Saw II

The photographers all strap on their telescopes.

Everyone wants to catch yet another close-up shot of a fighter at full throttle.

Once every two years, all the blogs fill up with the exact same juicy, bright, large photos of aircraft.

Every one of those photos could easily go on the pages of the advertising catalogs put out by the manufacturers of those planes.

I imagined myself being an ordinary Zhukovsky resident and turned into a country house dweller for a day.
