Veliky Novgorod

Map

Somewhere between Tver and Saint Petersburg, amongst fairy-tale forests and abominable roads, lies an astonishing city.

A city where you can still find manhole covers from the era of the People’s Commissariat of Communications.

Telephone PCC

A city where the trash cans are the size of a horse’s rump.

And they all tilt.

Pedestrians have a special glow here.

The city is home to the world’s longest bus stop (it’s brilliant).

The streets look something like this:

Just like in Ryazan, the 19th century remains untouched around the local kremlin.

Only here, there’s a beach next to the kremlin wall. It makes you want to pinch yourself.

Body art. Temporary tattoos 50 rub. and up.

To buy something that reminds you of childhood.

Cotton candy. Price 40 rub.

And gaze endlessly into the great beyond, completely unable to comprehend anything.
