How I Spent the Summer of 2005

Over the summer I accumulated quite a few photos, which didn’t make it into stories about the various cities I’d visited. 11 out of 12 are of Moscow.

Apart from a fairly hefty reflex camera, I also got a P&S camera that resembles a soap holder. After all, the camera in your phone can hardly be considered a real camera, not even as a joke. In addition, interesting details often remain in your field of vision for ten-odd seconds.

My favourite road sign near the 3rd ring road intersection by the Luzhniki stadium. The navigation around the third ring road was all designed by retards (the signs indicating turns are located after the turns themselves), but this really takes the biscuit. First of all, to go right you have to turn left, second, you need to do it the right way, because the left in question is not the left you think it is, it’s actually immediately to the left of the pole with the sign on it. If you follow the arrow you’ll end up all the way in the centre.

A dumpster in my street caught fire, but everyone was sound asleep and didn’t hear anything. So I call up the fire brigade, but instead of thanking me for being so vigilant the woman on the other end of the line is all “Why didn’t you say that you’re calling from a mobile number?” She never explained what difference this makes.

In the streets:

Groom’s gang

I hate GAZelle vehicles!!!

Outside the city:

Inside the lift at the “Echo of Moscow” radio station:

This one time I come home and there’s a piece of paper stuck to my door:

You have received an order to move to a different flat.
Please vacate the premises by 18.07.2005.
Cold and hot water, electricity, and gas will be cut off on 19 July.

So I had to move to a new flat and knock down some walls in it:

The province of cemeteries is a mystery. Here is the technical term they use for “flowers”:
