Saint BarthélemyMapMay 19, 2013 Yet another mysterious luxury resort with a dangerous airport. Planes have to fly around the mountain and then dive down at a fairly sharp angle. ![]() This is another possession of France. A bay full of yachts. ![]() A license plate. ![]() An old fire hydrant. ![]() A medium hydrant. ![]() A new hydrant. ![]() Highway guardrails are framed with wood logs to make them look eco-friendly and conceal their metal nature. ![]() Peace, quiet, bliss. ![]() Carved trim. ![]() Mailboxes for receiving mail. ![]() Mailboxes for sending mail. ![]() Every car has hexagonal local vehicle inspection stickers (just like in Niger). ![]() Street name signs with some kind of historical photograph in the background and the former Swedish name below. ![]() The black square with two white rectangles inside it under the “no parking” sign alludes to an outdated version of the French parking disc with two windows (arrival and departure time), which must be placed under the windshield. The newer shape of the symbol under the sign resembles an antique grocery scale (see Guadeloupe). ![]() It’s unlikely that someone would just show up here wanting to stroll around for half a day and then fly back. ![]() |
