Budapest

Map

January 20–21, 2015

The outskirts of the city are predictably horrid.

But the downtown is full of incredible beauty and awesomeness. Budapest is one of the most pleasant cities in the world.

The atmosphere is reminiscent of Saint Petersburg in some ways. The false teeth of plastic windows also fail to ruin the beauty of the architecture here.

A street toilet.

A parking meter.

A loading/unloading zone.

And here’s the loading/unloading.

A pretty new street sign, with an old one that’s half-painted over visible above it.

The old one looked like this.

The city now has a bike-sharing system.

A street cleaner with a street vacuum.

An amazingly beautiful bus stop sign.

A real post box.

A painting of a post box.

You step into a random café for a cup of espresso—and find yourself in what is practically the Sistine Chapel. People knew how to make things beautiful once. Not anymore.
