KolomnaMapMarch 19, 2006 The first thing that struck me was the underpass. Why it’s here is a total mystery. I certainly didn’t see anyone using it. There are few cars in the city and what’s more, the other pedestrian crossings on this street are ordinary ones. It would appear that it was built by mistake. ![]() Behind the old part of the city lies the pointless new part. They’re making attempts to zhuzh it up. ![]() Someone even gave some thought to the design of the rubbish bins. ![]() The city is charmingly provincial. It’s as if it were the early 90s. They still think that your line of business is your brand: ![]() Advertising agency ![]() Photo studio ![]()
Groceries A doughy solider mooched a tenner off me. A wino asked me what it was that I saw in this place and told me to photograph him instead (cf. similar story in Greenland). ![]() An affable pink man from some monastery was trying to scrounge together two hundred roubles to cover transport costs. ![]() At first blush I thought that Kolomna was a city of churches and reprobates. Both could be found on every street corner. But then the XIX century atmosphere prevailed. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Plus there are domes everywhere. ![]() There is a way out for those who are sick and tired of the domes and the late winter slush. Clamber over the snow bank and you’ll soon be in the Maldives. ![]()
