Hobart
Map
Hobart is the state capital. There’s nothing particularly remarkable here, but the city is pleasant.
Some parts are more beautiful.
Some less so.
Fire hydrants and valves installed under the sidewalk are marked with different colors.
The swastikas have defiantly re-emerged.
Trash cans. Just the way they should be in an Australian city—large, capacious and original.
Most of the city consists of old single-story buildings.
Bike parking in a trendy neighborhood.
Circular benches around trees in a pedestrian mall.
An incredibly beautiful flowerbed around a tree on the sidewalk.
The most beautiful detail here is the curbstones, which double as drainage channels. At the bottom of an incline, the wide granite slab between the sidewalk and the road ends in a concrete inset with diagonal notches, which help direct the rainwater down into the storm drain, rather than having it spill out further. Beautiful and elegant.
