CroatiaNovember 8...19, 2014 Croatia is one of the best countries for learning sailing. You can acquire new skills each day and explore a new town each night. SplitMapI dont actually like Split. ![]() The whole city feels contrived somehow. ![]() Occasionally you come across something genuine, but such moments are extremely rare. ![]() A parking meter. ![]() A fig-sign fountain. ![]() Curiously, there are always planes flying over Croatia. If you sit on the waterfront in Split and look at the sky, you can count at least three at any given moment. ![]() TrogirMapPeople who enjoy sailing are no fools—they know all the good spots. ![]() The castle. ![]() A nook. ![]() A side street. ![]() A trash can that brought Riga to mind. ![]() A market for locals. ![]() RogoznicaMapThe town looks cute from a distance. ![]() But theres absolutely nothing to see here. The municipal aquarium is the only thing that attracts attention. ![]() ŠibenikMapAn oasis of beauty and antiquity untouched by mass tourism. ![]() If a traveler should ever have to choose between Šibenik and Split, Šibenik is the obvious choice. ![]() Street trash. ![]() A trash can. ![]() Underground garbage containers. ![]() The shutters are green here. ![]() The doors are green. ![]() And its just generally full of charm. ![]() SkradinMapA quiet spot with decent restaurants (one of which can even be qualified as very good indeed). ![]() Theres a decent park where the first-ever hydropower plant in Europe was launched in 1895 (two days after the plant in Niagara Falls). ![]() VisMapA cute island. ![]() An insurance plaque. ![]() The old town. ![]() Weighed-down construction materials. ![]() HvarMapThe main square. ![]() Its neat how the poster panels wrap around the post box. ![]() Vela LukaMapThe largest town on the island of Korčula. ![]() A homeless man staring at a laptop. ![]() MilnaMapA lovely ancient town. ![]() SupetarMapShaded by palm trees. ![]() With oranges. ![]() In clear water. ![]() Lies a sleepy, pretty town with nothing going on. ![]() |
