Novosibirsk

Map

March 5–6, 2015

This pretty drawing on the pavement isn’t a flower—it’s a fuel hatch at the airport. This is the very essence of Novosibirsk.

Thankfully, they’ve built a nice new airport terminal, but the wayfinding signage looks horrible.

The urinal stalls deserve particular attention. They were designed by someone who doesn’t like it when his neighbors stare. But the end result is rather strange.

The airport hall has a really cool sculpture of a flying horse. And the belt barriers instantly ruin it.

Novosibirsk is still just as homey and just as confusing.

The opera theatre playbill is an island of sorrow.

The new hotel is a sad excuse for a piece of architecture.

They built a futuristic tower on the main street—and immediately ruined it with crappy head-to-toe logos and advertising.

Novosibirsk is doomed to be like this.

Or like this.

Or this.

And this.

And it seems like it’ll be so forever.
