Oryol

Map

May 2–3, 2014

Oryol is a fairly nice city. It sort of reminded me of Voronezh. There isn’t really much to do here.

The train station has a straw eagle in front of it. (“Oryol” means “eagle” in Russian).

Another part of the city has a ship made of plants in a sea of future flowers.

There are topiary horses as well.

The city uses flat traffic lights from Belarus (like the ones in Ulyanovsk).

A city trash can.

A rare toponym. The street’s name, MOPR, is the Russian acronym for the International Red Aid Society.

A rare architectural technique. The facade appears to be three times deeper than it actually is (compare to the Church of Santa Maria presso San Satiro in Milan).
