Pereslavl-Zalessky

Map

August 9, 2012

Let us take the example of a nice quiet town an hour and a half outside of Moscow—Pereslavl-Zalessky. How can it be improved, made more livable and turned into an attractive travel destination?

At first glance this seems like a tall order.

But it soon becomes clear where to start.

Put up normal traffic lights at the only signal- controlled intersection in town.

Revive the waterfront.

Fix up the ancient circular rampart.

Restore the rare remaining specimens of historical value.

Put in normal trash cans.

Create some decent street signs.

Install proper bus stops.

Free Wi-Fi at the municipal beach? Wow. We’re keeping that.

Blow up the elephant on the fountain.

Spruce up the arboretum.

And 32 more improvements.

In other words, an overhaul from start to finish.
