Rabat

Map

February 11–12, 2014

Rabat is a city of uneven rooftops.

Beautiful doors.

And archways.

Archways.

Archways.

The old part of the city, where the winding streets and beauty are, is surrounded by a wall and adjoins the new part.

A payphone.

A tram traffic light.

The tram shelters are very beautiful.

And the trams are low-floored, quiet, fast and incredibly long.

Modern civilization shouldn’t blemish antiquity. That’s why the cell tower is disguised as a palm tree (like in Benin, Botswana, Mauritius, Zambia or Namibia).

And trash dumpsters are kept in clay enclosures.

Let’s take a walk through the old city.

A metal smith.

A man selling cell phone cases.

Tissues for sale.

Clothing.

Shoes.

A sheep skull covered with plastic wrap.

A cook.

Schoolgirls.

“Aaaah! Oh god, what is that? Eww, come on, why are taking pictures?”
“Spare some change, please?”

The noble sage from Arab miniatures lives on here.
