Riga

Map

November 15–17, 2011

Unbelievable but true: signs at the Riga airport now also include Russian text.

A taxi stand sign has appeared.

The shaded areas show exactly what vehicles must go around when making a turn.

New bus stops have appeared.

Fire hydrants have appeared.

Bicycles can be rented from automatic stations.

The most unbelievable new detail is the traffic light with a red cross, which indicates when the oncoming stream of traffic has a red light. Like in Paris.

As for everything else, it remains the same as before.

Third Riga Credit Union

A Soviet electrical box.

High Voltage. Danger of Death!

An intact 15-year-old phone booth.

Round plaques with distances to nearby utility hatches.

Rainwater pipes are outfitted with little hatches at the bottom to catch debris.

And in some places they’re also equipped with individual railings.

The classic Riga wall-mounted trash cans are still around.

Old lampposts in the central park are being dismantled and taken away for restoration.

A woman plays the accordion. Perhaps the very same woman who was playing on this spot exactly ten years ago.
