Tiny Christmas Tales. Part VII. Austria

Map

January 5–9, 2014

Moving onwards.

Mayrhofen

Map

I got on a snowboard for the first time here and even managed to ride it down the slope.

Innsbruck

Map

A beautiful city. Although it would probably be less beautiful without the gorgeous mountains.

There are chests with sand on every corner, to sprinkle on the ground when it gets icy.

An Innsbruck trash can.

A parking meter.

Everything is great here, except for the nasty neon-green frames that have appeared on pedestrian crossing signs for some reason. The only nice thing about them is the layering. Back home, they just add a stick-on border around the edges of the sign.

Five-section trams cruise the streets.

The Christmas tree is wedged into a manhole, like in Antwerp.

Triangular fire insurance plaques can be seen here and there.

Important buildings are marked with Cultural Property plaques, which contain text in Russian.

There are indeed a lot of Russians here. You can tell where this crowd is from even from behind: Russians always buy things that are expensive and tacky, and avoid bright colors. The little flag is completely unnecessary.

Salzburg

Map

A city of trolleys.

Space-age trolleys.

The space-age trolleys travel through the most beautiful mountain tunnel on earth.

A street sign.

A traffic light for pedestrians and bikes.

A nice phone booth.

A Salzburg trash can.

Winter.
