Berlin and Ingolstadt
April 23–29, 2001
Off to Germany on business.
Berlin
Map
I had expected to see German order.
What I saw instead was slovenliness.
I had expected it to be beautiful.
What I saw instead were dreary new high-rises.
I had expected Germans to be law-abiding.
What I saw instead was a piece of home.

On the bright side, there were lots of nice things for sale at the flea market.
Ingolstadt
Map
The town is home to the headquarters of Audi, the car manufacturer. All of the cars on the roads are Audis, even the taxis.
The town itself is a typical small German town. It’s where I bought toothpaste “for your third set of teeth”. It turned out to be toothpaste for brushing your removable dentures with.
