Novosibirsk, Akademgorodok, Berdsk

May 25–29, 2005

Morning.

Our region is twice-decorated

Taxi.

Coachman

Prior to this trip I’d only been to Novosibirsk in the winter. And I didn’t see anything except a “Siberian fair”, where there was a big plastic model of the crucifixion next to a taxidermy bear.

I’m already there

It must be said that Novosibirsk as a city is of no interest whatsoever. No architecture, no little avenues, no little squares, no little alleys tucked away anywhere. Everything is relatively new, the streets are wide, and you can’t shake the feeling of emptiness. On the bright side, the people here are infinitely soulful. It seemed to me that the locals probably love their city for its name and location, rather than for its appearance.

Novosibirsk Main

A chapel called “navel of the world”, or rather, “centre of Russia” is the city’s main highlight. They don’t specify whether they factored in Kaliningrad when calculating where the centre is.

Time for a snack.

Restaurant

As well as a drink.

Kvas

Strictly speaking, Akademgorodok is part of Novosibirsk, but in actual fact it’s a different place.

The pharmacy is open via the special window
Entrance on the supermarket side

Found a marvellous monument on the pedestrian embankment — a section of a bridge.

Russia.

From here it’s onwards to Irkutsk.
