New York

Map

July 11–13, 2015

We’re all used to beautiful New York.

We’re all used to fairytale New York.

This is what the real New York looks like:

A typical police line — a painted wooden construction set that you can dismantle.

Portable drinking fountains.

Parking meter.

Bicycle hire has just arrived in the city. It’ll be up and running in the next few days.

This replaces a boom barrier. A bed of spikes rises up out of the ground around critical infrastructure.

A novelty at JFK airport: if you buy booze in duty-free they don’t just hand it over — you’re only allowed to pick it up just before you board the plane. The sign on the glass suggests that they decided against getting one of the half a million Russian speakers in this city to come and translate.
