October Saint Petersburg loves to put arrows pointing straight ahead on its traffic lights. ![]() The city also loves little secondary traffic lights. The solution used in Moscow, for example, is to put large secondary lights on the opposite side of the intersection. ![]() A street sign, already outdated, is safely hidden behind a traffic light. It has a good chance of remaining there, unnoticed, for another decade. ![]() An experiment is being carried out on one of the intersections: half the roadway has been given over to trams, the tram stops are now islands with a railing separating them from car traffic, the pedestrian crossings have been raised above the road surface (like in Toledo) and are made of stone. ![]() There are even wheelchair ramps, but the designers failed to think one thing through: as soon as a wheelchair rolls down from the sidewalk, it bumps into the raised edge of the crosswalk. ![]() |
